Is Akobo behind in development and why?

Have you ever been to a land so green that your green thumb just sprout Maize? You haven’t? Then you have not gone to Akobo, don’t get me wrong I’m not selling you a perfect idea of an agricultural utopia but I’m giving you the reason why investment in the agricultural industry in South Sudan especially akobo is not such a bad idea.

Challenges and opportunities

Akobo has had its hardest times but like many south sudanes during times of term oil and struggles they survived and are thriving to say the least. As the people endured, so did the land. Since then, a significant change has been noticed in the hyper growth in flora and fauna. Does this signal a new age of agricultural produce in Akobo? That’s for you to find out?

Akobo as a county lacks the support it needs to grow from a surviving county to a self sustainable utopia of agricultural produce. Here are some of the ideas that could potentially level up the green county.

  • fishing farms: Akobo is locked by rivers giving the land the much water it needs flowing from upstream. This brings with it fishing opportunities and the ultimate opportunity to start a fishing business.
  • Vegetable farms, Akobo land is reach with minerals that allow la the growth of highly needed vegetable produce, these ranges from okra, onions, tomatoes, and more greens.

What is holding Akobo back?

Many factors qualifies this statement however political strife stand Chief amongst them. With the fragility of political standings, Akobo remains divided between political parties though majority is on the “In Opposition” side. Political affiliations, though encouraged  brings challenges to the development of the county.

The fact that most political participants are young and able bodies who’s capability can be the uplifting synergy the county needs, in it stead, negative political divide stretches the distance between poverty and prosperity. But can this be changed? Let me know in the comment.

Conclusion

The many challenges facing the green town currently stems from political distractions. With a sense of unity within the residents of this ever changing land, a positive change can be seen at the end of the tunnel. This comes about by the effort some of the youths puts in setting up businesses and associations. Some of which are LYNOD, AYA, and more. See you next week.
